Section A: Theoretical Evaluation of Production
In this section, you are required to answer two compulsory questions. The first requires an evaluative commentary describing skills development over the course of both the Foundation and Advanced Portfolios. The second question requires an evaluative commentary referring to one production in relation to one theoretical concept from the MIGRAIN Framework.
Question 1(a) requires you to describe and evaluate your skills development over the course of their production work, from Foundation Portfolio to Advanced Portfolio. The focus of this evaluation must be on skills development, and the question will require you to adapt this to one or two specific production practices. The list of practices to which questions will relate is as follows:
In the examination, questions will be posed using one or two of these categories.

Question 1(b) requires you to chose one production and evaluate it in relation to a concept from the MIGRAIN frameworks which excludes IDEOLOGY AND INSTITUTION.

- Aims and Objectives: Answer the question in a paragraph. This section should explain exactly what you did, why you did it and what you have learned in relation to the topics. It should outline the following points - What exactly you did in terms of the topic. What did you need to do and why?
- Introduce and Describe the Process in relation to the Topic. This section should extend on your first statement by describing your process in relation to the topic. What did you do? Why did you do it the way you did? What technology did you use of why? What did you hope to achieve?
- Evaluate the Process in relation to the Topic. This section should explain exactly what you learned from your process in relation to the topic. It should explain your successes and failures, describing how the process could be improved. In other words - What went well? What went wrong? What was problematic or time consuming? How could you have made things easier? What did you learn? How did you use the technology? Did you achieve your goals?
- Conclusion: Your conclusion should reflect your introduction and it should include a brief overview of the evaluations in response to the question and the subject area.

- Aims and Objectives: Answer the question in a paragraph. This section should describe how you have used media language to express meaning with relation to the topic area. This section should introduce the production with a sentence and then identify the topic area in your film, responding to the question specifically.
- Introduce and Describe the Theory. Here you should illustrate your understanding of the topic and describe the conventions and/or theories which are attached to the topic with relation to your Media Portfolio. You should also identify and explain your adaptation of said conventions in the production.
- Critically Analyse the Portfolio in relation to the Topic. Here you should conduct a critical analysis of the Portfolio in terms of the topic. The question will ask you how and why you implemented the topic area in your portfolio and so a semiotic reading of your Portfolio in relation to the topic area is required. How did you represent the topic area and how was this communicated through the portfolio and was this effective for audiences?
- Conclusion: Your conclusion should reflect your introduction and it should include a brief overview of the analysis in response to the question and the subject area. Here, you should sum up the main points in the analysis and recap on how your Portfolio conformed and deviated from conventions set by the topic area.
